New Morrisons store with Grade II Listed windmill in Goole

Extension and re-modelling of an existing retail store.

Project Brief

The Morrisons Goole store is situated on an area that use to comprise of an assortment of old mill buildings, these all surrounding a late 18th century Grade II Listed windmill. The site was generally cleared in 2005 ready to accommodate the new supermarket, leaving the windmill tower standing in isolation. At the time the new store lacked any customer refreshment facilities, allied to the fact that, after renovation, the windmill was of no practical use and remained empty.

Morrison’s determined that an extension solution should be found which would both resolve the customer requests for a café facility and, by suitable design, bring the windmill back into beneficial use as a focal point for the community and customers of the Store.

Once again windmill now has a meaningful use, to the benefit of customers of the Morrisons Store and the people of Goole in general, adding a positive visual contribution to the locality.
