As part of a collective Planning Application for a new District Centre to Stanground South, the proposal for the new centre would include an anchor food store at its heart with surrounding supporting facilities. Jointly, between the development team and the Local Authority, a series of Low Carbon and sustainability commitments were established.
Morrisons saw this project as a key opportunity to further develop their Low Carbon policy and deliver a store that could be used as a form of test bed to develop new technologies and to trial standards for their future build programme.
As part of this commitment the following headline targets were established:
10% Renewable Energy usage,
15% Overall Energy reduction,
An EPC “A” Rating,
A BREEAM “Excellent” rating for the building,
The development of a cutting-edge refrigeration technology that uses natural refrigerants.
